Purpose     

The purpose of Tourism Lucas County is to promote tourism within Lucas County, by helping to improve the county's preparedness, to enhance its ability to attract and maintain tourism.

Activities

Sponsors the Annual Tour of Homes and Annual Home for the Holidays held on the first Sunday in December each year. Each event is held every other year. The Tour of Homes will be back in 2006, with Home for the Holidays returning in 2007, and so on.

Sponsors a Garden Tour held every other year in the spring

Sponsorship of motor coach tours to Chariton and Lucas County.
 

Participates in the Chariton Valley Planning and Development organization, whose purpose is to promote cooperation between counties in joint efforts to attract visitors.

Participant in the Historic Hills Initiative which is coordinating uniform signage in participating communities along the Highway 34 - Highway 2 corridor through south central Iowa, as well as promoting mass plantings of redbud trees through the same area.
