Chariton's 150 Celebration September 8 - 9, 2007

We had a beautiful day for our Sesquicentennial!  Everyone commented on what a wonderful celebration- the west side of the square was filled with Flea Market venders and memorabilia display, along with old fashioned games.  The east and north side of the square was filled with Historical displays and the south side of the square was filled with Antique tractors and an old thrashing machine.  There was a quilt show at the Library, Museum activities at the museum, free movies at Vision II theatre, Community band concert, Square dance, Reader's theatre presentation, ice cream judging contest, Parade, and  the celebration ended Saturday with "Old Betsy' shooting a a stream of water over the top of the Courthouse.

The "Citizens of Distinction" were: Doris Clanin, Rosemary Evans, Sam Irving, Dick Threlkeld, and Jack Young.

On Sunday  Community Worship service was at the bandstand, followed by lunch at the Senior Center. Then the walking tours of the Square with ten historic buildings being narrated. The buildings include State Farm Insurance, Family Shoe, Rural Health Care Advantage, Piper's, Copy Plus/The Gold Boutique, K Threlkeld/Dr. Rips, True Value Hardware, Lucas County Courthouse, City Hall and Connecticut Yankee Pedaller. The Historic Preservation Committee sponsored a tour of Discovering our Community's past---Cemetery Tour.
