2010 ANNUAL MEETING OF THE MEMBERSHIP
The Chariton Chamber and Development Corporation held their annual meeting at Carpenter's Hall on July 22, 2010. The 2010 Citizen of the Year award was presented to Byron Welch. Presenting him with the award was last year's Citizen of the Year, Randy Westman.
Byron was recognized for his many years of service to the community, in many different capacities including an Ambassador, a member of the Chariton Rotary Club and helped start the roadside clean-up, Charter member of the South Central Iowa Community Foundation, served on the Chariton Water Board, has served many years on the 4th of July Committee and has volunteered his time to host other community, civic, non-profit and church organizations and activities. He was selected for the honor by a panel of past recipients.
Three awards were given out this year; the first award was the Ambassador award and this was awarded to Bill Howes. He never misses an ambassador call and attends all the sports and other events in Chariton. The 2nd award was awarded for Community Commitment and this was awarded to Emery and Sherry McDonald along with Jake and Amanda Schroeder for their ongoing commitment by building the Legacy Lodge (the new Circle of Life Hospice Center) for investing in the future of Chariton. The third award "Pillar of the Community" Award was awarded to Hy-Vee, Inc. which includes both Chariton Hy-Vee Food Store and the Hy-Vee Distribution Center for their support and dedication they have given our County for 80 years.
Chariton Chamber and Development Corporation President for the 2010-2011 year is Amanda Demichelis.
